Washington D.C. Georgetown Elopement and Engagement
2020 is the year of unconventional weddings! A year of throwing out the original plan and making a new one. And that is exactly how this session went! Cindy originally reached out to me about capturing engagement photos in Washington DC for her and her fiancé. Shortly after reaching out, they booked me and we made a plan. By the time their session date rolled around Brian and Cindy had decided to go ahead and get officially married during the pandemic and that is how their session turned into an engagement/Bridal portrait hybrid! They actually got married the morning of their session with me, literally like just a half an hour before we met up. At that time, Washington DC was only offering ceremonies with a court justice over zoom calls and because of DC’s rules they had to be physically within the DC proper limits during said zoom call. With Cindy and Brian living outside of the city limits they went to the hotel Cindy works at for their Zoom ceremony. Right after they said I do we met up in Georgetown to capture some bridal portraits. While they were having their ceremony, I arrived in DC early to scout out some spots for us to shoot in Georgetown! If you have never been to the Georgetown area of D.C. the whole area is pretty picturesque, so it was not at all hard to find some great spots. Cindy and I both really like this blue house and how the blue color popped! We used both sides of the house as our backdrop and then hoped back in the car to go down the block to another spot. Now you might ask why did we get back in the car to just go a block?! AND THAT WOULD BE BECAUSE IT WAS A 100 PLUS DEGREES OUT AND THE HUMIDITY OF LIKE 1000 %. You might think I am being dramatic but if you have never experienced a Virginia/ DC Summer consider yourself lucky (it’s very very hot). But despite the heat and humidity Brian and Cindy made it look like it was a breezy spring day! I am still in aww of how they managed to look so good in the stifling heat, while I looked like I had just step out of a pool from sweating so much. Anyways moving on, after exploring Georgetown we drove over to the Navy Yard for their engagement session portion. The Navy Yard is actually where Brian proposed to Cindy in February and it felt perfect to end the day where their engagement story started.
