Best Time:

Best time for your session in the city varies on the location and if you mind crowds.

Popular locations:

If you are wanting to have your photos at a popular spot like the Brooklyn Bridge or Central Park and want to avoid crowds as much as possible, early is the way to go! I usually start with my couples right at sunrise for sessions in popular areas because it gets crowded very fast! The other option if you are not an early riser, is to have your session in a month when the weather is colder! The colder weather tends to thin out the crowds. If you do not mind dealing with crowds, we can go off when the best light will be

Other locations:

If you are wanting to shoot in less popular spots, such as a random neighborhood, there will be more flexibility in the time of day that would work best to shoot. At the same time though, it is a city and there are always people around.

review

We were so lucky to have our engagement photoshoot in NYC with Sarah, a professional, creative, and sincere photographer!

You can easily learn from her photos that she's very unique and good at finding out people's own beauty. And I found it's not only because she's experienced but she does her own research :)

She guided us with ease and proceeded very quickly. Sometimes you might not notice whether she's actually taking photos or setting her camera, and that's how she gets natural scenes very well.

Also, we asked some concepts and places we're interested in a few days ago, and she considered everything in the photoshoot. She listens to your story and interests very carefully and brings best options for you.

Oh, we made an appointment a year ago. She's very kind and responsive but too popular, so you need to move fast to arrange a schedule with her.

Transportation:

There are a few options for transportation between locations for your session. If they are not far apart, we can just walk and shoot along the way. If they are farther apart, we can take the subway or catch a cab/Uber. Picking between the subway or cab depends on how much you want to spend on transportation. If you want to use the subway, I will research station close to the locations you want to shoot at, best routes, and how long it will take to get between the locations. If you have not heard of the app CityMappers, it is my favorite app to use to navigate public transportation around the world.

How Long a session should be:

If you are wanting to stay in one area of the city and just walk around, I would suggest 2 hours. I know if you have never taken photos before or if photos make you uncomfortable, 2 hours can sound like a VERY long time but you will not be shooting that entire time. It going to take you sometime to warm up and relax in front of the camera and then you want to leave time to walk to a new location or play with some creative ideas.

If you are wanting to hit up different location within the city like the Brooklyn Bridge and Soho or Central park and the High Line, I would say you need a minimum of 3 hours. This is to allow for getting from one place to the next and not feeling like you have to rush in each location.

When it comes to photoshoots having more times is always better. Rushing through a shoot will produce photos that looked like you rushed through the shoot. So either limit what you want to achieve during your session or scheduled for ample time!
