San Diego: La Jolla Beach gloomy Couple Session

Taylor and I go way back—not in person, but through the ever-connected world of Instagram. We both started our photography journeys on the East Coast, actually in the very same state, just about two hours apart. But funny enough, it wasn’t until we both moved to the West Coast that we finally had the chance to meet in person.

Now, I’m based in Los Angeles, and Taylor and her family have settled in San Diego—once again, just about two hours apart. When I had a wedding scheduled in San Diego, it was the perfect opportunity to finally connect in person and capture some moments together. We planned a shoot at La Jolla Beach, excited to make the most of the beautiful California coastline.

When the day arrived, Southern California gave us an unusual moody afternoon—gloomy skies and a crisp, cool breeze. While most photographers hope for golden-hour magic, the overcast weather turned out to be a blessing in disguise. The usual crowds had cleared, leaving us with an almost empty beach, a rare and peaceful setting for our session.

Though we didn’t get the warm, glowing sunset we might have envisioned, the soft, diffused light and the misty fog created a dreamy, almost cinematic atmosphere. There’s something special about the quiet beauty of a moody beach session—it feels raw, real, and undeniably captivating.

After years of following each other’s work from afar, it was incredible to finally meet, shoot together, and share this creative experience. It’s funny how life has a way of bringing things full circle, no matter what coast you’re on.
