NYC Washington Square Park Wedding
There’s something about New York City that never loses its wonder. No matter how many times I shoot here, I’m always in awe of the way the city’s energy shifts with the seasons, yet its essence remains timeless. The blend of history, architecture, and vibrant culture makes it an endlessly inspiring backdrop. So when Denise reached out after discovering some of my NYC work on Pinterest, I knew this session was going to be something special.
Denise has called New York home for almost two decades, and even though she and her husband, Steven, now live overseas, the city still holds a huge place in her heart. As they planned a visit back to the States, she knew she wanted to document their time together in a city that had shaped so much of her life. Photographing couples in meaningful locations always adds an extra layer of depth to a session—it’s not just about the scenery, but the memories and emotions tied to the place.
We started our morning just after sunrise in Washington Square Park—a location that’s typically buzzing with artists, musicians, and locals going about their day. But at this hour, it was nearly empty, offering a rare moment of stillness in the heart of the city. The soft morning light streamed through the iconic Washington Arch, casting a golden glow over the quiet park. It felt almost like we had stepped into a different world, a peaceful oasis before the city fully woke up.
For those unfamiliar, Washington Square Park is one of the most well-known public spaces in NYC, located in Greenwich Village. It has that classic European feel, with tree-lined paths, charming benches, and, of course, the grand arch that instantly transports you to another era. It was the perfect place for Denise and Steven to begin their session—walking hand in hand, reminiscing about their years in the city, and soaking in the nostalgia of it all.
After capturing some romantic and relaxed moments in the park, we wandered the surrounding streets of Greenwich Village, one of my absolute favorite neighborhoods in New York. This area has such an old-world charm, with its brownstone-lined streets, ivy-covered buildings, and the kind of character that can only be built over centuries. We strolled through quiet alleyways and charming stoops, pausing whenever the light hit just right or a scene called for a candid moment. Denise and Steven’s chemistry was effortless, their love story unfolding naturally as we moved through the city.
Next, we hopped in an Uber to Soho, another quintessential NYC neighborhood with its cobblestone streets and cast-iron facades. Soho is the epitome of chic—timeless, modern, and full of understated luxury. The shift in scenery gave the session a completely different feel, adding contrast and depth to their final gallery. I love when couples are open to exploring multiple locations during their session—it allows us to tell a fuller story and capture the different sides of their relationship.
As we meandered through Soho’s quiet morning streets, we stumbled upon hidden corners with perfect textures, soft morning shadows, and that dreamy city atmosphere. Denise and Steven effortlessly fell into moments of laughter and affection, completely in their element. Every interaction between them was so genuine, so full of love—it made my job incredibly easy.
To wrap up the session, we made our way to Balthazar, a French brasserie that has been a beloved NYC staple since the ‘90s. Denise specifically wanted to end the morning with coffee and pastries here, a nod to the simple pleasures they love sharing together. With its rich red awnings, intimate outdoor seating, and bustling yet cozy interior, it felt like the perfect way to close out our time together. They settled into a small table by the window, sipping espresso and indulging in buttery croissants, completely immersed in their own little world.
There’s something so special about ending a session in a place that reflects the couple’s personality and story—it’s those small, everyday moments that make the grander love story even more meaningful. The way Steven looked at Denise while she laughed mid-sip of her coffee, the way she reached for his hand absentmindedly while they talked—these are the unscripted, fleeting moments that I love capturing the most. The kind of moments that feel like home.
This session was such a reminder of why I do what I do. It’s not just about photographing beautiful locations or perfect lighting—it’s about telling stories, preserving emotions, and creating something timeless. Denise and Steven’s NYC session was filled with all the things that make my heart full: effortless love, meaningful locations, and an experience that felt natural and true to them.
If you’re dreaming of an engagement session, anniversary session, or just a beautifully captured moment in your favorite city, I’d love to bring your vision to life. Let’s explore together, chase that perfect golden light, and create something that feels authentically you.
New York, I’ll see you again soon. ✨
